Saint Louis University is a Catholic, Jesuit, metropolitan institution dedicated to education, research, healthcare, and service to the community. The University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences reports to the Vice President of Frost Campus, and has direct responsibility for the largest academic unit of the University with more than over 300 full-time faculty and 17 academic departments, plus 15 programs and centers. In addition, the College oversees numerous graduate programs, including eleven doctoral programs.
The College of Arts and Sciences has a strong core curriculum featuring the liberal arts, the fine arts, language, the sciences, and the social sciences. It also has a strong emphasis on externally funded, independent research. Its students are part of SLU's ethnically, culturally, and religiously diverse student body of more than 13,000. Fall 2010 enrollment in the College was 3,439.

The successful candidate will be a leader dedicated to academic freedom and shared governance, who supports faculty initiatives to develop teaching, research, and service excellence, fosters collaboration across disciplines, and works with faculty to develop a vision and future plans for the College consistent with the University's Catholic, Jesuit identity. The Dean will also play a leadership role in the College's fundraising efforts and work with an active alumni association. The Dean has academic and budgetary authority over the College departments and programs (both undergraduate and graduate).
