Undergraduate
Certificate in Creative and Professional Writing
The Certificate Program in Creative and Professional Writing
offers students and opportunity to gain experience in many
difference kinds of writing, from poetry and fiction to
journalism and public relations. The program helps students
develop and mature as writers by providing extensive practice
in both creative and professional forms of writing. Though
English or Communication majors frequently seek the Certificate
in Creative and Professional Writing as an additional credential,
students from any discipline may pursue it.

Graduate
Certificate in Rhetoric and Composition Studies
This
certificate program allows graduate students to pursue an
additional, interdisciplinary study of rhetorical theory
and writing pedagogy. The certificate requires 12 hours
of course work, six in English and six in communication.
Students also complete an independent research project (a
25-page paper or equivalent). For full requirements, please
consult the Writing Program office.
Certificate
in Computer-Assisted Instruction
Requires
attendance to four CAI seminars, two seminars from the Center
for Teaching Excellence, and displayed proficiency in
use of the computer lab in writing pedagogy. For full requirements,
please consult the CAI Lab office.
Trainer
Certificate: Computer-Assisted Instruction
Recipient
of this certificate has displayed comprehensive knowledge
in certain computer applications and has taught seminars on
specified applications to faculty, graduate students, and
others. For full requirements, please consult the CAI Lab
office.
Awards
The Fournier Award
This award is given annually to a graduate
student who has represented our department in the classroom
for at least four semesters. The award is made in the Spring
semester by the Graduate Committee on the basis of a nominating
letter from faculty and thorough consideration of the candidate's
teaching evaluations.
