Communicating in Chinese Level I
(CHIN 110-01 MWF 10:00-10:50 CRN 15094)
(CHIN 110-02 MWF 11:00-11:50 CRN 15379)
An introductory course designed for true beginners. Students who take this course will learn about the Chinese culture as well as master basic pronunciation (pinyin) and grammatical structure of spoken Chinese. You will have a vocabulary of 400 lexical items and be able to comprehend enough spoken Chinese to survive simple daily conversations. The course uses videos, newspaper clippings, photos and tapes.
Communicating in Chinese Level II
(CHIN 115-01 MWF 12:00-12:50 CRN 15096)
An intermediate course designed for students who have the basics of Chinese (e.g. pinyin, four tones). Course emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and basic writing skills. Students will build a large vocabulary and improve daily oral Chinese, enabling students to use Chinese comfortably in making travel arrangments, business appointments, etc. Additionally, the course will integrate the Chinese culture into the learning process to enhance practice of Chinese.
Intermediate Chinese
(CHIN 210-01 MWF 2:10-3:00 CRN 15098)
For students who have successfully completed the Level 2 course or equivalent from another institution, Level 3 will allow you to master a vocabulary of 800 lexical items and be able to proficiently communicate, read, and write Chinese.
Advanced Chinese
(MLNG 293-05 MWF 3:10-4:00 CRN 18016)
This is an advanced course designed for students who have already successfully completed Intermediate Chinese or have other relevant experience. In parallel to oral Chinese, it also covers extensive readings of Chinese literatures, culture, and history. Students will be proficient in Chinese that allows them to read simple Chinese short stories and newspapers.
