Les Champs Élysées, the French Floor in the Language Villa, is created for students with a passion for exploring French culture through language by providing the opportunity to live with other students with similar interests in a learning community. Les Champs Élysées introduces students to cultural and linguistic diversity and teaches cultural understanding, a quality of increasing importance in our global society. Les Champs Élysées has a native french assistant living within the community to facilitate many of the programs and linguistic development. Students focus on language learning through, for example, common course work, conversation, cultural events or a foreign film series. Students in this learning community will experience numerous special events drawn from our diverse ethnic communities in the city of St. Louis and the surrounding areas.
Laurence Béal, Villa French Assistant for 2008-09, says: "I am very excited about the upcoming year." Laurence is from the Loire Valley.
Program Requirements for Les Champs Élysées
- Completion of application form and interview;
- GPA: 3.0 or higher, 3.0 in languages courses at SLU;
- intermediate level or above in French
- All students are co-enrolled in MLNG 293: Cultural Connections: The Language Villa (0-1 credit course) in conjunction with a French course appropriate to the student's level. First year students will also be co-enrolled in History 112-07 Origins of the Modern World since 1600.

Aileen Curtin is looking forward to joining the French wing of the Villa in Fall 2008. Her multiple interests include French, International Studies and theatre.
Notre Dame Description:
Notre Dame is a community for upperclassmen and freshmen students. Consisting of mostly single rooms, Notre Dame provides a unique blend of an academic and social atmosphere. Notre Dame will also be the home to Les Champs Élysées.
