Meet Dr. DiPalma-Amelung!


Dr. DiPalma-Amelung

Anna Di Palma-Amelung received a Laurea in Foreign Languages from the University of Bologna, Italy, where she wrote her dissertation on Henri Bosco. She taught French at the Universities of Bologna and Modena, and Italian in France. She studied at Washington University and received her Ph.D. in French after writing a dissertation on 17th and 18th century novels. After teaching both French and Italian at Washington University for six years, she taught French and Latin at University City High School. In 2007 she was chosen as Missouri Foreign Language Teacher of the Year by FLAM.

Dr. Amelung describes herself as a "renaissance woman", and enjoys researching various French, Latin, and Italian topics, especially as they relate to women's studies, Vergil, silent cinematography, fine arts, theater, songs, and local history, and is equally fascinated by Machiavelli, puppetry and malacology! She enjoys giving cultural talks to local libraries, clubs and organizations. In 2004 she received a NEH grant to study Petrarch in Provence. Dr. Amelung has also presented pedagogical workshops both nationally and internationally (Martinique and Quebec), being actively involved with all local foreign language organizations, and is President of the American Association of Teachers of French, St. Louis Chapter. She is also planning to organize a session with local teachers to be presented at the AATF Convention in Belgium in July 2008.
