The Language Villa: Stephanie Griggs

Stephanie Griggs

I have been a member of the German House Community all four years as an undergraduate. During this time, I have learned much about German students and German culture. Living in a community with international students provided me with an understanding of culture unavailable in books or in the classroom. By speaking German in a household setting, I learned how to communicate by improvisation, despite not knowing specific vocabulary.

The accommodations represent another advantage to living in the German house. The ground floor boasts 2 large refrigerators, the only gas stove on campus, marble counter-tops, large dining room, and living room with a tv and vcr. There is a coin-operated washer/dryer in the basement. On the second floor, the double rooms are spacious.

The German House is a great alternative to dormitory living, and provides a valuable opportunity to interact with other German students.
