Advising
Freshman
Freshmen entering Saint Louis University as pre-health professions students,
with the exception of Saint Louis University Medical Scholars, are advised
and register for classes with an academic advisor in the college of their intended major. At the conclusion of your freshman year, if you have a
3.0 or higher cumulative grade average, you may receive secondary advising in the Office
of Preprofessional Health Studies. Our staff will talk with you about pre-health coursework, shadowing/volunteer opportunities, and other preparations for application to professional school.
Use your first year to decide on a major. Any A&S
major is appropriate, while majors in
the Doisy College of Health Professions and the School of Nursing may
also be appropriate for pre-health professions students. Students taking a non-science major are encouraged to pursue a minor in Biology.
Medical Scholars
are advised and register for classes in the Office of Preprofessional
Health Studies. Once
a Medical Scholar declares their major, they receive an advisor in the College housing the major, and they receive a faculty mentor in their major course of study. Preproffessional Health Studies serves in a secondary advising capacity from this point forward.
Transfer
Students
Transfer students are
advised in the Office of Preprofessional Health Studies. A program of
study will be tailored to your specific needs.
