SLU Alpha Epsilon Delta MCAT Prep Course

COST/REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  • 1st Deadline: Ocober 12 -- $350
  • Final Deadline: October 26 -- $400
  • These enrollment fees cover all class materials, tests, and classroom lecture hours.
  • To register, you must sign up and pay Carol at the Office of PreProfessional Health Studies (Verhaegen Hall 314) by the deadline date. All checks should be made out to "Alpha Epsilon Delta, Missouri Beta Chapter".
  • Classroom lectures in Basic Biology, Basic Chemistry, Organic Chemisty, Physics, and Reading/Writing.
  • AED's course is a fraction of the cost of other MCAT preparation programs.
  • Take up to 6 full-length computer based tests in an actual test day-like environment.
  • MCAT Prep Course Schedule/Sign Up Sheet are located in Verhaegen Hall 314

PPHS 193-01 Foundations of Medicine (1 credit hour) Open to freshmen only.

Meeting Time: TBA

Course Description:

This course provides a broad survey of premedical studies, the preparation for medical school admission and the medical profession. The class will address the specifics of medical school admission requirements and processes, academic coursework at the undergraduate and professional school level, the training of the physician and typical routines of a medical practice. The sequence of events from undergraduate coursework to becoming a licensed physician will be discussed. The class will examine how this sequence plays an integral part in the development of a capable physician.

Format: Lectures, presentations by practicing professionals

Grading: Exams, special project, class participation

PPHS 193-02 Introduction to the Helping Professions (2 credit hours)

Open to all students.

Meeting time: TBA

Course Description:

This course explores career opportunities in the helping professions. Eleven professions are reviewed including clinical laboratory science, communication sciences and disorders, education, health information management, nuclear medicine technology, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, occupational science, physical therapy, psychology and social work. Students receive presentations from faculty in each of these areas and engage in a number of assignments to increase their knowledge of those professions in which they are most interested.

 

Format: Lectures by faculty and staff in the represented fields

Grading: refection papers, interview and shadowing of a professional, class participation, integration paper

Instructors: Alexa Serfis, Ph.D., and Jennifer Fraser, B.A.
