Curriculum

In the general undergraduate curriculum at Saint Louis University most students are required to take theology. The basic introductory course, Theological Foundations, introduces the student to the God of revelation within the Judaeo-Christian tradition as grasped in faith and to the understanding of its implications for living a human life, respecting creation and pursuing beauty and truth. This is done within an ecumenical and global context, examining other world religions and various social realities. Subsequent courses focus more specifically on an aspect of Christian or other religious traditions and address important social and moral issues of our day.

Minor In Theological Studies

Through the Department of Theological Studies the College of Arts and Sciences offers a minor in theology.

The minor requires eighteen hours of theological courses (of which six or nine of these hours are already required for advancement toward the Bachelor's degree in the various undergraduate schools of the university).

Major in Theological Studies

Through the Department of Theological Studies the College of Arts and Sciences offers a major in theology. This requires thirty hours in addition to the other core requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts and Sciences.

After the introductory course, Theological Foundations, nine hours are required in one of the following areas of theology: biblical, historical, systematic and moral / spirituality.

Six hours may be taken as electives and seventeen hours in fields related to theology may likewise be pursued.

Senior seminars and a senior synthesis are required of each student.
