1984 Bellarmine Lecture

Monika K. Hellwig
“Emerging Issues in Soteriology”

What is it that is really going on when people are being redeemed? Is the process concerned only with the inner life (a Gnostic claim), or is it a past historical event (always a part of the Christian assertion)? Dr. Hellwig considers these questions as well as challenges available from technological advances, political developments, and ecumenical perspectives as we seek to broaden the Christian understanding of salvation. And she proposes thought-provoking questions of her own as she outlines issues that must be faced in coming to this fuller perception and in evaluating appropriate responses to the divine redemptive initiative.
