1997 Bellarmine Lecture

Gerald O’Collins
"Images of Jesus: Reappropriating Titular Christology"

Biblical scholarship and contemporary Christology have focused on certain titles of Christ but have overlooked others. O’Collins sees a role for a broader titular Christology that would include a recovery of the titles “Lord,” “Last Adam,” and titles that have become relevant in the 20th century. These images, he says, not only articulate a formal Christology but enliven devotional life. Ultimately they become narrative- and heart-shaping images.
