2004 Bellarmine Lecture

Helmut Koester
"Paul’s Proclamation of God’s Justice for the Nations"

Koester offers a reinterpretation of the traditional understanding of the “righteousness of God” in Paul by showing Paul’s connection to the prophetic proclamation of justice for Israel and for the nations. This reinterpretation becomes relevant for those who see their own nation as righteous and other nations as at least deficient if not part of an axis of evil. Further exploration shows that there is but one criterion for belonging to the community that Paul envisions.
