Teaching: Welcome, I am the coordinator of the family nurse practitioner (FNP) track at Saint Louis University School of Nursing which got its start with a Health Resources and Services Administration, Division of Nursing, grant in 1994. My colleagues and I created the Internet program in 1997. Presently, I teach client health promotion and client management of adolescents, adults and elderly and I provide clinical supervision to FNP students on-site and on-line.
Practice: My interests and practice combine community health, cross cultural practice and interdisciplinary team activities. Practicing at the International Institute of St. Louis and La Clinica, the Hispanic free-clinic, has given depth to my understanding of client needs and offers students an opportunity to work in non-traditional sites. My practice in community health nursing involves assisting communities to improve their health through community organizing.
Research and Scholarly Activities: My research investigates the role of great grandmothers in our society through the interviewing of American great-grandmothers of African, European, Mexican and Indian heritage. I, also, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to examine ways to keep elders from being re-admitted to the hospital.
I am a member of the American Nurses Association and the Delta Lambda Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau from which I have received recognition for my teaching and community work.
