Undergraduate Program
The department of communication
sciences and disorders is committed to excellence in
teaching, research and clinical practice. Our program
offers you a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Communication
Sciences and Disorders degree. A master's degree is
necessary to practice as a speech-language pathologist
or audiologist.
The undergraduate program
consists of a minimum of 120 hours (credits) of undergraduate
curriculum and can be completed in four years (eight
semesters). Classes in the department generally have
20 to 30 students. The faculty strives to maintain a
close relationship with students and to assist with
academic and career decisions. Student/faculty cooperation
is a major strength in the department.
You may obtain a double major
in communication sciences and disorders and another
field (e.g., psychology, Spanish). This requires careful
planning and coordination to assure that you meet the
degree requirements for both majors. Saint Louis University
also has many certification programs. If you choose
speech-language pathology as your profession and want
to work with children, you should take courses specified
by the state department of education for teacher certification.
Undergraduate and graduate
students are encouraged to participate in research.
They often work with a faculty mentor in gathering and
analyzing data and have been able to present their work
at national, regional and local meetings.
