The
International Adoption Clinic (IAC) is
an interdisciplinary collaboration between
Saint Louis University's Speech-Language-Hearing
Clinic and the Center for Counseling and
Family Therapy. We provide resources and
services to internationally adopted children
and their families. The program also provides
an on-site clinical practicum for graduate
students. Faculty members from the departments
of Communication Sciences and Disorders
(CSD) and Counseling and Family Therapy
(CFT) direct the program and provide clinical
instruction for these graduate students.
Currently, we provide
a developmental assessment of speech,
language, and social-emotional development,
and hearing competency with annual developmental
check-ups. We use this assessment to provide
families with specific feedback on both
strengths and growth areas. This feedback
may contain recommendations for follow-up
services, which may include communication
treatment, hearing services, support groups,
social-emotional development education,
and counseling.
The IAC is located
on the ground floor of McGannon Hall at
3750 Lindell Blvd., within the CSD department.
Diagnostic evaluations and services are
provided in the speech-language-hearing
clinic, which includes a preschool classroom.
This classroom includes a large multi-purpose
room with learning centers, a fully equipped
kitchen, a restroom facility, laundry
facility, and outdoor playground equipped
with recreational equipment. A family
support group and other family services
will be provided in the Center for Counseling
and Family Therapy in a nearby building
located at 3740 Lindell Blvd., phone (314)
977-2505.
