Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctoral program focuses on systemic relational therapy with individuals, couples and families. Coursework focuses on the "cutting edge" of theory, practice, and research development in the field of MFT. The Doctoral program involves a minimum of 42 semester hours of coursework beyond the master's degree, plus comprehensive written examinations and original research culminating in the dissertation (12+ semester hours). Prerequisites include a master's degree with at least 48 hours in marriage and family therapy, in counseling, clinical social work, or a related area. At least two years of post-master's degree experience as a practicing counselor or therapist is recommended.
