Joint Degrees with the School of Law

The Department of Public Policy Studies and the School of Law offer students the opportunity of earning a joint degree in either Law and Public Administration (JD/MPA) or Law and Urban Affairs (JD/MUA). The student spends the first year of the joint programs in the basic curriculum in the School of Law. Thereafter, the student begins the Master's program in addition to Law studies.

Each of the two Master's programs adds a unique element to the student's view of the Law. The JD/MPA program, for example, offers the student a unique legal and administrative understanding of the public bureaucracy. The JD/MUA program, on the other hand, offers the student an understanding of the many land use problems confronting urban areas and the role of local, state and federal regulations in framing issues of the urban environment.

Curriculum

The students in the joint programs take a total of 103 hours of course work (79 hours in the School of Law, and 24 hours in the Department of Public Policy Studies) for completion of each of the joint programs. Core course work in the Department of Public Policy Studies is the same for both the joint degree programs and the regular Master's degree program. Read more about specific course requirements to the Public Administration and Urban Affairs Master's Programs at the program sites.

To Apply

Students interested in the joint degree program should contact the Saint Louis University Law School's Admissions Office and obtain, complete, and submit the necessary Law School admission forms. The student should then apply to the Graduate School. The first year of study will take place with the School of Law basic curriculum with Master's study beginning in the second year.
