Constance Z. Wagner
Associate Professor

Professor Constance Wagner became a law professor after fourteen years of practice experience as a corporate lawyer in New York City’s financial district, which included law practice in Europe. Her scholarship has focused on emerging trends in banking and securities regulation and international trade law. Most recently, she has written about the gender impacts of trade agreements and legal aspects of corporate social responsibility. She combines her extensive practice background with an interest in the impacts of globalization in her teaching and writing.

After earning her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, Professor Wagner worked as an associate with the law firm of Seward & Kissel, where she represented domestic and foreign clients in corporate, banking, and securities law matters.

Professor Wagner later joined the General Counsel's Office of The Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., where she served as vice president and senior associate counsel. She represented the international banking division, securities affiliate, wholesale banking division, and trade finance division in various transactional and regulatory matters.

Before joining SLU LAW in 1995, Professor Wagner earned her LL.M. from the Universität Konstanz in Germany, where she researched international trade and investment law as a fellow in an institute on globalization. She also practiced with two leading German law firms.

Professor Wagner is on the faculty of the Center for International and Comparative Law and is affiliated faculty with the Women's Studies program at Saint Louis University. Professor Wagner has also served as chair or co-chair of the American Association of Law Schools, Section on Financial Institutions; the Missouri Bar, International Law Committee; the American Society of International Law, International Economic Law Group; and the American Branch of the International Law Association, International Trade Committee. She is a member in good standing of the New York and Missouri bars.
