SLU Bookstore Update
July 31, 2013

With the first day of classes just a few short weeks away, we want to pass along the following information regarding books.

Ordering
The University Bookstore’s website for SLU LAW is http://slu-law.bncollege.com. This site features only law textbooks (no other academic disciplines), as well as school supplies and SLU clothing and gift items. Fall semester purchases can be made through Sept. 6.

Shipping/Delivery
The Bookstore has arranged flat-rate UPS shipping at $6.95 per order. For students ordering books for more than one class, this will still result in a significant savings on the shipping over the standard rate of $6.95 + $1.95 for each additional item.

Pickup is also available at Busch Student Center with no delivery charge. There is no delivery service between the main campus and the law school at this time.

Billing
Students can bill any textbooks, school supplies and computers (including Nook tablets) to their SLU student accounts, both in-store and on the website. Students can charge up to $1,200 per semester. Click here for more information on the Bookstore's fall semester computer specials.

If you have any questions, please call the SLU Bookstore at (314) 531-7925.

Scott Hall Protocol
July 29, 2013

Many members of the faculty and staff have already moved in and we can’t wait until everyone can join us at our new home at Scott Hall. Of course, with a new space comes new protocol. The law school administration has been working with the University's Department of Public Safety, the City of St. Louis and the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis to ensure the security of law school students, faculty and staff.

Building Access First and foremost, you will need to have your University ID card visible at all times. Everyone will be required to show ID upon entrance and all visitors must sign in at the front desk. The building will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a security guard on location 24 hours a day. Students can access the building starting at 6 a.m. until the library closes (Monday – Friday), and on Saturday and Sunday during library hours by using your SLU ID.

Scott Hall Shuttle You can access Scott Hall from the main university and designated law school parking via a new shuttle. Hours and information can be found here. The shuttle will connect Scott Hall to the main University campus, Salus Center and the law school parking at Schnucks Culnaria and 1215 Olive St. surface lot. (Further information on parking can be found online.)

Downtown Partnership The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis has offered the services of the Downtown Guides that can escort students, faculty and staff should the need arise. They will be available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. More information is available here. In addition, security cameras in the surrounding areas outside of the building will be monitored by both University DPS and the Partnership.

SLU LAW to Partner with Downtown Businesses to form the SLU Zone
July 8, 2013

With the move to our new building, we are all very excited to be part of the downtown St. Louis neighborhood. We would like to encourage our students, faculty and staff to be active members of this community, and therefore the Office of Student Services has developed the SLU Zone. The SLU Zone is a group of businesses that will partner with SLU LAW to offer promotions to our students, faculty and staff on the Third Thursday of each month. Details on the types of promotions will be forthcoming as we further develop the program. Below is the public announcement of the program.

For more information on the SLU Zone, read the press release.

BONUS: Have you seen the video of the library's move to Scott Hall? It will reopen Monday, Aug. 5.

SLU LAW and Bon Appétit Management Company to Open New Restaurant in Downtown St. Louis

“The Docket” will soon take on a new meaning for Saint Louis University School of Law students, faculty and staff as well as downtown’s legal and business communities. This fall an aptly named café and bistro will open on the ground floor of SLU LAW’s new home at 100 N. Tucker Blvd., in the heart of downtown’s civic and judicial center.

Parking Reminder and FAQs
May 29, 2013

Student pre-registration for downtown parking starts today, May 29. This can be done online by going to myslu.slu.edu through June 30. If you are having issues with the system, please email Parking and Card Services with your parking preference, Banner ID, license plate number/state, vehicle year, make, model, body type and color. Faculty and staff are asked to pre-register in person at Parking and Card Services or via email through this Friday, May 31. More details can be found in our previous parking update.

Due to the high volume of requests, Parking and Card Services will not reply with a confirmation email. If you email parking@slu.edu and do not receive any automated notification that it is undeliverable, it has been received.

We realize parking is a major concern and many of you have questions regarding the parking policies. We have collected your questions and have shared the answers below. If you have any further questions please email parking@slu.edu.

When it says reciprocal parking is available for Scott Hall permit holders, does that mean just premium parkers?
No, anyone with a law school permit (premium or preferred) will have reciprocity at the Salus Center, Medical School, Frost Campus and Anheuser-Busch Institute. The reciprocal parking policy is the same campus wide. A map of reciprocal parking can be found on the Parking and Card Services website.

Regarding preferred parking, is the permit specific to one location?
Preferred parking permit holders will have access – and can park – at either preferred location. If 1215 Olive is full, you can park at the Ninth Street Garage.

What if I have Scott Building premium parking, which ends at 5:30, but will be in the building past that time (class, evening events)?
If you are in premium parking, the spot you reserve is yours from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. You do not have to leave at 5:30, but if you do, the space is open for anyone to take. If you are here before 5:30 and have class until 10 p.m., you can stay in your spot. You can come and go all day and have a guaranteed spot, but if you leave after 5:30, the spot is fair game for those who have paid for evening parking inside the law school building.

Does SLU participate in the Transit Benefit Program or provide any other type of subsidy for those of us who are interested in taking the Metrolink into work?
The university does not provide an employer subsidy of the parking passes. However, for faculty and staff, SLU provides a service where you can have the cost of monthly metro passes deducted from your paycheck. The cost of the pass ($72/month) is deducted pre-tax. In order to participate, you must buy monthly passes (bi-weekly, daily, and other options are not available). Currently, the university receives the passes and employees pick them up at the parking office on campus. Parking and Card Services is looking into having any passes forwarded to a point person at the law school or visiting the law school monthly for distribution.

Will 3Ls have priority in registering for parking spaces inside the law building?
No, this will be done through a lottery.

Where will the handicapped parking be located? How will this be managed?
There are six handicap accessible spots located in Scott Hall. These will be available to any individuals holding a University approved handicapped parking pass for any of law school parking options. They will be available on a first come first serve basis unless reserved by the individual through premium or 24 hour reserved parking. Handicapped parking is also available at the Olive Street surface lot and Ninth Street Garage.

Will there be spaces reserved for students inside the building?  How are they assigned?
Yes there are spaces reserved for students inside the building. Because parking inside the building is limited, these will be assigned through a random lottery done by Parking and Card Services.

What are the hours for the preferred parking?
You will be able to access the Olive Street surface lot and Ninth Street Garage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note that your permits are only good for your designated parking. Preferred permit will not be able to park in Scott Hall in the evenings or over the weekends.

Who can park in Scott Hall?
24-hour reserved, premium and evening permit holders are the only permit holders allowed in the building at any time.

When will I know if I got the spot I wanted?
Parking and Card Services is working diligently to get parking assigned.  You will be notified once the pre-registration is complete.

How long do I have to pre-register?
The deadline for pre-registration for Faculty and Staff is 3 p.m. on Friday, May 31. Students pre-registration will continue through June 30.

Downtown Parking Plan Announced
May 24, 2013
With the move fast approaching, parking has been a hot topic for all of us. Our friends at Parking and Card Services have put together our parking plan with the help of St. Louis Parking that we are happy to share with you.

Parking for the 2013-2014 school year will be available in options similar to the other two SLU campuses. There will be three levels of daily parking along with an option for an evening permit.

The following locations and options are available:

Preferred parking will have the benefit of using a surface lot at 1215 Olive or the Ninth Street garage located just down Olive Street. Security will be provided at both locations during evening hours.

Pre-Registration

Students –  Pre-Registration will begin at noon on May 29 and will continue through June 30. Because we have limited number of Premium, Reserved and evening parking spaces, you will be notified if we will not be able to fulfill your request and at that time you will have the option of a preferred permit. Those with Premium and Reserved spaces will be notified when they can come to our office to select their parking space.

Use the following instructions to complete on-line Pre-Registration:

  1. Log in to mySLU.
  2. Go to the Tools tab.
  3. Open Banner Self-Service.
  4. Select Student.
  5. Select the clickable type for Parking and Card Services Vehicle Registration.
  6. Enter vehicle information: license plate number/state, vehicle year, make, model, body type and color.
  7. Select your permit choice.

Faculty/Staff – Pre-Registration can be done starting next week during regular office hours by coming to the Parking and Card Services office located in Room 33 of DuBourg Hall, or emailing your request to parking@slu.edu. Please be sure to put in the subject line “Scott Hall Pre-Registration.” In the body of the message, include your Banner ID, license plate number/state, vehicle year, make, model, body type and color.

Reciprocal Parking
Reciprocal parking will be available to all Scott Hall permit holders on both the Frost (Laclede Garage) and Medical campuses (Hickory West Garage). At this time we are not able to offer reciprocal parking to Frost and Med Campus permit holders on the Law School campus.

Transition Period
Parking contracts for the new spaces will begin on Aug. 1. During the month of July, parking inside the building will be available on a first come first serve basis, and priority will be given to the contractors working to complete our space. In lieu of building parking, you are able to park at the Ninth Street Garage or any available surface lot at a daily rate at your own expense during the month of July. Current permit holders will not be charged during the transition unless otherwise arranged with Parking and Card Services.

Shuttle Service
Arrangements are being made to provide a shuttle to Scott Hall and information regarding routes and times will be communicated in the near future.

As for the questions you may have, please understand we are addressing additional issues of security and weekend parking and will have that information to you once it is finalized. We appreciate your patience. Any additional questions may be directed to parking@slu.edu.
