SLU Health Law Program No. 1 in Nation for 8th Straight Year

Once again, Saint Louis University's health law program has been named the best in the nation by health law scholars, according to U.S. News & World Report. The top ranking will appear in the magazine's "Best Graduate Schools 2012" issue, on stands soon. The ranking comes as ongoing changes to the nation’s health care system create an even greater need for well-trained lawyers with a strong background in health issues. Read the press release.

SLU LAW Moot Court Team Take First Place at the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition

Law professors and students are invited to attend the first annual Saint Louis University School of Law Vincent C. Immel Lecture on Teaching Law at noon on Friday, April 15 in the William H. Kniep Courtroom. The lecture honors the late, revered SLU LAW Professor Vincent Immel’s love of teaching students about the law. The SLU Law Jessup International Moot Court Team Competes at Regionals

The SLU Law Jessup International Moot Court Team competed in the Rocky Mountain Regionals in Denver from Feb. 24 to 26. The team placed fifth out of 26 teams coming out of the initial rounds, ultimately winning three out of their five arguments. Nick Loyal placed fifth, and Erin Conner placed third out of more than 100 oralists. SLU also picked up ninth best brief out of 26 teams. Teams members Stephanie Hudson, Andrew Wheaton and Elizabeth Laurie were also present along with their coach Amy Hoch Hogenson.

SLU LAW Places 3rd in Frederick Douglass Moot Court Regional Competition

The Saint Louis University School of Law Black Law Students Association’s (BLSA) moot court team placed in the top three of the Midwest region in the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition (FDMCC) hosted by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA). Professor Goldner Invited to Speak at National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

Professor Jesse Goldner has been invited to participate in the working group "Facilitating Clinical Trials through Optimization of the IRB Process: Are Central IRBs the Solution?" sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health. The meeting will be held June 28-29 in Bethesda, MD. The Working Group will be chaired by Dr. Gordon Bernard, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and will consist of nearly 25 participants who will take part in the general discussions. Professor Goldner will speak on conflict of interest issues.

SLU LAW Hosts 23rd Annual Health Law Symposium

The Saint Louis University Center for Health Law Studies and the Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law & Policy will host the 23rd Annual Health Law Symposium from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 4 in the William H. Kniep Courtroom at the School of Law. The symposium, "Implementing Health Reform: Fairness, Accountability & Competition" will look at the Affordable Care Act’s ambitious timetable for implementing health reform by bringing together scholars and policy makers to examine some of the key issues in implementing the act’s requirements for new Health Insurance Exchanges, Medicaid expansions and Accountable Care Organizations. SLU LAW PLUS Program Helps Area Trial Judges

Saint Louis University School of Law has created an innovative new program employing 18 recent School of Law graduates to provide free and much-needed legal services to the Missouri and Illinois communities. The program is having a special impact on local trial judges who are grateful for the extra assistance and resources in their areas. The Saint Louis University School of Law Black Law Students’ Association (BLSA) in collaboration with the Saint Louis University Cross Cultural Center and African-American Studies program will host a lecture titled ―Condemnation of Blackness: Race, Crime and the Making of Modern Urban America‖ at 4 p.m. March 2 in room 4 at the School of Law. Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, a scholar of African-American history from Indiana University at Bloomington and the recently selected director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (effective July 2011) will give the lecture. Professor Pendo Submits Comments on Acccessibility Issues
February 10, 2011

Professor Elizabeth Pendo recently submitted two public comments on the importance of accessible medical and diagnostic equipment for people with disabilities. The first was a public comment by letter dated January 24, 2011, supporting the Department of Justice’s adoption of standards and scoping requirements for accessible medical equipment in its proposed revisions to Titles II and III of the AD., The second was invited testimony to the United States Access Board by letter dated February 10, 2011, addressing the effect of inaccessible medical equipment on access to health care for people with disabilities, legal background, and recommended sources of reference for specification and scoping standards.

SLU LAW Places Nationally in Moot Court Competition

The Saint Louis University School of Law Moot Court Team placed in the top four of the 61st Annual National Moot Court Competition for the second year in a row. This year, 180 teams participated in the competition in New York City and SLU LAW was represented by students Lindsey Hammitt, Adam Johnson and Meghan Zenker who also took home honors for the second-best brief award in the competition.
