The Saint Louis University Prison Program is a Jesuit inspired initiative that provides education to prison staff and people incarcerated in Missouri, promotes service, and conducts research on crime and incarceration. The program has been nominated for the Grow St. Louis Contest where people can vote once a day for a program of their choice to receive an award of up to $15,000 from Monsanto. This money will help buy books for students, compensate faculty, bring speakers to the facility, and support other administrative aspects of the program. Professor Sidney Watson submitted comments to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services on proposed rules on the new Health Insurance Exchanges authorized by the Affordable Care Act. The Exchanges are designed to create a new more competitive marketplace for individuals and small businesses. The comments were submitted on behalf the Rural Research Policy Institute (RURPI) Health Panel and address issues of particular concern to rural communities.
