2009 Projects & Participants


Six first year undergraduates and two peer mentors were selected for BE@SLU in 2009 out of more than 50 applications. Projects ranged from biomechanical studies of cadaver IVD to electron microscopy of 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering to characterization of bio-inspired anodes.

BE@SLU gives the participants a competitive stipend, housing, and stipends for travel and food. In addition to participating in a research project, BE@SLU has programming that includes career panels, industry tours, research seminars, oral and written communication components, social activities, and cell culture training. In 2009, social activities that encouraged participation from both the BE@SLU students as well as their research groups included:
