Michael is an instructor with an appointment to both departments in the School of Public Health. In the Department of Health Management and Policy he is working on a new graduate-level academic program in Community Benefit. As the only Jesuit, Catholic School of Public Health in the United States, SLU SPH is positioned to help health care administrators work through the financial necessity of community benefit as well as its mission-oriented possibilities. In the Department of Community Health he is developing new courses in global health for undergraduate students. His areas of research focus on goal-setting and resource allocation in low-income countries, the relationship of medical missions to the local health systems they serve, and the ways public health ethics frames health challenges differently than medical ethics.
In addition to his training in public health, Michael’s time at SPH is part of his formation as a Jesuit. Since entering the Jesuits in 2003, Michael has worked and studied in the US, Canada, Switzerland and throughout Central America.
