For over 33 years Dr. Schmitz has accumulated extensive executive experience in managing the operations, information systems, planning, and finances of various sectors of the healthcare market including a 450 member multi-specialty physician practice, a managed care organization with over 250,000 enrollees, an EMS organization with over 100 vehicles and a 500 bed acute care teaching hospital. He is a nationally recognized author and lecturer in health care management. During his career he has authored or co-authored 5 books and over 75 articles in peer review, technical and professional journals. He has lectured at over 80 national and international meetings and seminars. Numerous national and international health care consulting assignments have been carried out including domestic engagements with the Center for Health Services Research of the University of Southern California, the Lutheran Hospital Society of Southern California, and Arthur D. Little. International engagements have been completed in Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and South Africa. Professional memberships are held in the American Hospital Association, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the Medical Group Management Association and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society where he has held national committee appointments. Dr. Schmitz is also on the editorial boards of 2 healthcare journals. Research interests include information systems, ambulatory services management and health services financing.
