The School of Public
health offers several ways to help finance your graduate education including:
Merit-Based Scholarships
Every applicant who receives an
admission to the School of Public Health is automatically considered for a
merit-based scholarship. Scholarship opportunities include the following:

Merit-based consideration
includes grade point averages, standardized test scores, letters of
recommendation, work and volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, and
other information gained about applicants during admissions interviews.
Interested students must submit complete applications to the Graduate School
by March 15.
Graduate Research Assistantships
Students may apply for a limited number
graduate research assistantships following their admission to the School of
Public Health by submitting their resume the Director of Admissions. In
exchange for a 20-hour per week work commitment, most graduate research
assistantship positions pay monthly stipends of $1,000 (for 11 months out of
the year), plus 18-21 credit hours of tuition per year, and health insurance.
Part-time Jobs
The School of Public Health offers a
limited number of part-time job opportunities. Typically, these include
positions working on individual faculty members’ grants, in one of the
research centers or as assistants in the school’s academic departments.
Students may apply for a limited number graduate research assistantships
following their admission to the School of Public Health by submitting their
resume the Director of Admissions.
Eliminating Health Disparities (EHD)
Traineeships
Several traineeships are available to
African-American students in the School’s MPH, MHA or PhD programs who exhibit
interest in careers focused on eliminating health disparities. Students
receive monthly stipends, substantial tuition support, health insurance, book
allowances and more. Interested students must submit completed applications
by March 1. In addition, students must complete an additional EHD
application, which can be downloaded from http://hcrl.slu.edu/ehd
Presidential and Diversity
Fellowships
The Graduate School
provides additional opportunities for U.S. students including Presidential and
Diversity Fellowships. These are generally awarded to the most exceptional
candidates. Graduate School fellowship applications require nomination from
the student’s department chair. The department nominations are sent to the
Graduate School on March 1. Hence, to be considered for nomination, students
must complete their applications by February 1.
Open House Workshop on
Graduate Research and Service Opportunities
During the School of
Public Health’s Open House (held on the second Friday each January),
representatives from most of the school’s research centers, laboratories and
institutes make 5-10 minute presentations to prospective students about the
nature of the important work in their areas. Some of them hire a limited
number of graduate research assistants while others seek student volunteers
interested in service and experiential learning opportunities.
