Other MPH Options
Biostatistics is the science that applies
statistical theory and methods for investigating, evaluating
and describing health, health interventions and risk factors,
as well as understanding the natural history of diseases,
disease processes and transmission. Biostatistics provides the
methodology for the design, data collection and analysis of
studies in the areas of medicine, environmental science,
public health and related fields.
This concentration prepares students to
design and organize research projects, manage data and analyze
large data sets. Emphasis is on applications of biostatistics
in clinical settings, epidemiological research, community
intervention evaluation and many other areas of public health.
Students with this degree will have a general background in
public health as well as sufficient theoretical understanding,
appropriate technical skills and the necessary applied
experience to function as a staff biostatistician in
industrial, public health or academic settings.
