Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)

Provides various awards for study, research and internships in Germany.

Ford Foundation Fellowships

Provides funding for graduate students pursuing doctorates in all fields who seek to increase the diversity of the nation's university faculties by:

  • Increasing their ethnic and racial diversity
  • Maximizing the educational benefits of diversity
  • Increasing the number of professors using diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students

Killam Undergraduate Fellowships for Americans

Provides funding for U.S. undergraduate students to undertake one semester or a full academic year of study as an exchange student in Canada.

Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Provides funding in all fields for graduate students who are first- or second-generation Americans.

U.K. Summer Institutes

The U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission offers summer programs at world-class U.K. universities to undergraduates from the United States. Summer institutes are three to six weeks in length and provide an immersive academic, cultural and social experience for freshmen or sophomores.

Rotary District Grants and Global Grants​

​​Rotary International awards funding for graduate study and humanitarian projects abroad. Students should contact their local rotary clubs and districts to inquire about scholarship availability and application processes.

Josephine DeKarman Fellowship

​​Provides funding for undergraduate students entering their senior year who have an emphasis on the humanities.

Public Service/International Focus

Clinton Fellowship for Service in India

​​The American Indian Foundation's Clinton Fellowship pairs a select number of young professionals with credible NGOs and social enterprises in India in order to accelerate impact and create effective projects that are replicable, scalable and sustainable.

Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship

​​Provides paid summer internships with the U.S. Department of State for undergraduates.

Humanity in Action Fellowships in Europe

​​Intensive, five-week summer programs focused on the history of discrimination and resistance, democracy and minority rights in Europe. The fellowships are open to undergraduates and recent graduates.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

​​Provides a stipend for graduating seniors to pursue a public service project anywhere in the world.

Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship

​​Open to juniors, fellows attend a summer institute and receive funding for graduate school focusing on public policy and international affairs.

Budapest Semesters in Mathematics

​​Summer or academic semester study program for students of mathematics open to sophomores and juniors. Courses are taught in English.

DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) Program

Provides paid summer research experiences for sophomores and juniors in Germany. No German language skills are required.

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (CSGF)

​​Provides funding for graduate school in fields that use high performance computing to solve complex problems in science and engineering.

Department of Energy Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (SSGF)

​​Provides funding for graduate school in fields related to stewardship science, such as high energy density physics, nuclear science or materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Summer Internship Program

Provides 10-week summer research experiences for undergraduates majoring in DHS-related science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.

Hertz Foundation Fellowship

​​Provides funding towards doctorates in the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Oxford and Cambridge Biomedical Sciences Program

Provides funding for students pursuing a doctorate in biomedical sciences at Oxford or Cambridge. Students will receive an Oxford or Cambridge degree but split their time between the U.K. and the NIH in Maryland.

NIH-University Partnership Programs

​​Provides funding for students pursuing a doctorate in the biomedical sciences via joint programs with numerous universities and the NIH.

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Scholarships

​​Provides summer research opportunities across the country for undergraduates in science and engineering.

Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship

​​Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, this award provides funding, internships and postgraduate employment for both undergraduate and graduate students in STEM fields.

Whitaker International Fellowship Program

Provides one year of funding for recent biomedical engineering graduates to conduct research, pursue graduate study or undertake an internship abroad.

Teaching Opportunities

Austrian Government English Teaching Assistantship Program

​​Provides paid positions teaching English and sharing U.S. culture in Austrian secondary schools for recent graduates with German language skills.

French Ministry of Education Teaching Assistant Program

Provides seven-month, paid English teaching positions in France and Francophone countries. Applicants must have proficiency in French.

North American Language and Culture Assistants in Spain

​​Provides paid positions teaching English and sharing U.S. culture in Spain, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree by start of assignment and be proficient in Spanish.

Knowles Teaching Fellowships

​​Provides support for recent graduates aspiring to teach science, technology or mathematics​ at the secondary school level.
