About the Conference

GOALS OF THE CONFERENCE
  • To enrich the knowledge and practice of Ignatian spirituality
  • To empower and encourage leaders in Ignatian spirituality and in the works rooted in this spirituality
  • To share experiences of various works animated by Ignatian spirituality
CONFERENCE THEME AND MAJOR PRESENTATIONS
Ignatian Passion: The Challenge of the Cross in the 21st Century is the conference theme.

The conference will explore the role of Christ's Passion in the Spiritual Exercises and within the context of our world today. The major presentations will consider: (1) Ignatius' own experience of the passion, stemming from his vision at LaStorta, when he was told by the Father that he would be placed with the Son as he bears his cross; the passion in the Third Week of the Exercises; and how the Eucharist is key to understanding the mystery of the Cross; (2) In the 21st Century, how do we encounter the cross? What happens to us when we are asked to serve under the standard of the cross? (3) In our daily lives, how do we take up and embrace Christ's passion? What formation and foundation do we need in order to do this?

WORKSHOPS [ complete list ]
In addition to the three major presentations, there will be a variety of workshops. Some of these will bear directly on the conference theme, but others will cover topics and issues explored in past conferences e.g. current applications and adaptations of Ignatian spirituality, special topics; and Ignatian spirituality centers, programs, and associations.

In response to 2005 conference participants, two workshop "tracks" have been developed. Some workshops will be presented for those who are relatively new to Ignatian spirituality and its practices. Others will be geared for those more experienced in this spirituality, and conducted in a seminar format, allowing a sharing of experiences and insights by participants.
