Campus-wide Learning Technologies

Faculty and graduate students teaching courses at SLU have many learning technologies at their disposal, but there are several key applications that have been adopted campus-wide. The University's campus-wide learning/course management system is Blackboard Learn 9.x. Here, you will find access to other applications, as well, including Tegrity (the University's lecture capture solution), Campus Pack (a learning objects suite, which includes wikis, blogs, and other student-engagement tools), Wimba Classroom (a synchronous online collaboration tool), and Respondus (an exam-creation tool).

Technical support for these tools is handled by ITS. However, pedagogical support for these and many other learning technologies is available through the Reinert Center.

In the Center, our approach to technology is rooted in the firm belief that instructional goals and learning outcomes should drive technology adoption. If you're an instructor, wondering whether to use a particular technology or questioning how technology might help you engage your students better and better achieve your instructional goals, the Reinert Center's instructional designers can help. To discuss ways you might meaningfully integrate technology into your classes, contact us.

Blackboard Learn

Instructors who need technical assistance learning to use and/or troubleshooting problems in Blackboard can contact faculty support at 314-977-2252 or at facsupport@slu.edu. How-to guides and training manuals also can be found here.

Tegrity Lecture Capture

In fall 2011, the University adopted Tegrity as a campus-wide lecture capture solution. More than just recording live lectures, however, Tegrity can be used in a variety of ways to deliver supplemental content, assignment overviews, feedback to students, and more. Perhaps most interesting of all is the use of Tegrity for what has become known as "classroom flipping"-instructors pre-record lectures and assign them as homework; then, during class time, they engage students in hands-on, applied practice. Thus, they "flip" the homework and in-class work. For more information about the research on lecture capture, as well as guidelines for SLU faculty's use of Tegrity, see http://slu.edu/capture. Instructors who need technical assistance learning to use and/or troubleshooting problems in Tegrity can contact ITS support at 314-977-4000. How-to guides and training manuals also can be found at http://slu.edu/capture.

Campus Pack

Campus Pack is a learning objects suite, which is housed inside of Blackboard Learn. It allows students to create wikis, blogs, and other web-based work (such as portfolios), either for a specific course assignment or for their own purposes. Instructors who need technical assistance learning to use and/or troubleshooting problems in Campus Pack can contact faculty support at 314-977-2522 or at facsupport@slu.edu. How-to guides and training manuals also can be found here.

Fuze Meeting

Fuze Meeting is an online video-conferencing and real-time collaboration tool that can be accessed via any web browser or supported smartphone/tablet.  It allows instructors to host synchronous online class sessions. Instructors who need technical assistance learning to use and/or troubleshooting problems in Fuze Meeting may ITS at 314-977-4000 or go here for additional information.

Respondus (an exam-creation tool)

Respondus allows instructors to create and manage exams, either online or printed for use in class. The tool is housed inside of Blackboard Learn. Instructors who need technical assistance with Respondus can contact ITS support at 314-977-4000. Those who need training can contact facsupport@slu.edu, and/or consult the how-to guides here.
