Courses offered: Principles of Biology I (BL 104), Natural History of the Vertebrates (BL A410), Ichthyology (BL A428), Aquatic Ecology (BL A420), Biogeography (BL A545).
Research interests: My interests are in evolutionary biology particularly at the population level. Over the last 25 years I have conducted extensive research on hybridization phenomena in freshwater fishes. I am interested in determining the strength and nature of isolating mechanisms that maintain the genetic integrity of closely related syntopic species. Also, I have studied population structure in sockeye and pink salmon in Alaska. Recent research interests include the study of population structure of killifishes from the rainforests of Cameroon and Gabon in Africa. I have a peripheral interest in population structure of rare and endangered plants occupying calcareous fens in the Missouri Ozarks.
Research opportunities: I have continued to mentor students interested in the above areas of research. If you are interested in discussing research opportunities in my laboratory please feel free to visit.
