The Bachelor of Arts program in Chemistry option is ideal for students in the Pre-professional Health Studies Program, Pre-Law, or those interested in obtaining a double major or Certificate Program in Business or other areas. Although the B.A. is not certified, it does contain the minimum requirements that would enable a student to apply to graduate school in chemistry or biochemistry. However, students interested in graduate school are encouraged to take additional chemistry courses beyond the minimum requirements (especially undergraduate research).
The Bachelor of Science program in Chemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society and is generally the degree desired for employment of bachelor's graduates by most chemical companies. As an ACS Certified Program, it places heavy emphasis on course and laboratory work, as well as research. Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in chemistry or biochemistry should consider this degree option.
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Regular Track
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Pre-Med Track
The Bachelor of Arts program in Biochemistry is designed for students interested in applications of chemistry to the life sciences and in preparation for professional schools, such as medicine, dentistry, law, and pharmacy. This degree provides sufficient rigor to prepare students for graduate school in biochemistry, graduate medical training programs in a variety of areas, and in chemistry.
Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry Regular Track
The Bachelor of Science program in Biochemistry is designed for students interested in applications of chemistry to the life sciences. This degree provides excellent preparation for students interested in working in biochemistry, molecular biology, or biotechnology. The degree provides preparation to work as a professional biochemist in an industrial or government laboratory. Students with the ACS certified degree in biochemistry also have the skills to work as a professional chemist. The degree gives excellent preparation for graduate school in biochemistry, graduate medical training programs in a variety of areas, and in chemistry.
Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry Regular Track
This Dual Degree of Cooperative Engineering Program is intended for students interested in obtaining a B.A. in Chemistry (from SLU) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (from Washington University). The program requires 26 hours of chemistry credit from SLU. The student is given 6 hours of chemistry credit towards their B.A. for two chemical engineering courses taken at Washington University.
Dual Degree of Cooperative Engineering Program
