The Cooperative Institute for Precipitation Systems (CIPS)
The Cooperative Institute for Precipitation Systems (CIPS) was initiated in 2000 to bring together academic researchers with government and industry experts with the goal of better understanding significant precipitation events in the U.S. Midwest. Results of this on-going research has been presented at many national conferences and regional workshops. Numerous graduate students have contributed to the CIPS research effort. Sixteen have completed their master's degrees, and five have completed their doctorate. Of the master's students, five have stayed on for their doctorate, while seven have gone on to employment with the NWS. Currently two students are working with CIPS, one is working toward their doctorate and the other toward their master's.
