Benjamin Halliburton


Ben is a doctoral candidate in the History Department at Saint Louis University. His interests include Italy, the Crusades, and the Latin East. He is writing his dissertation on the marquisate of Montferrat in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, which achieved a level of power and prestige that touched much of Europe and the Mediterranean. Through an analysis of the careers of itsthree most prominent marquises, it will further explore the roles of crusading pedigree andkinship in the rise and fall of medieval aristocratic groups.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Ben received a BA in English from Grinnell College in Iowa. He is a current member of the Crusade Studies Forum executive board and is actively involved in teaching and pedagogy.
