Ph.D. in Public and Social Policy

The Political Science department and the Sociology and Anthropology department jointly administer an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Public and Social Policy. This degree is designed both for people interested in an academic career in the policy field and for people who intend to work in government, non-profit organizations, or business. Students master multiple disciplinary perspectives, advanced methodological skills, and the ability to conduct research in an academic or applied setting.

The Public and Social Policy program prepares students to engage with significant social and political problems and to tackle some of the biggest problems of our times, including persistent poverty both in American cities and in poor countries around the world, urban renewal, racial and ethnic inequality, and health disparities.

To be admitted into the Ph.D. program, students must already hold a master's or professional degree in a related field, such as the Political Science M.A. or the Master of Public Administration offered in this department.
