Master of Arts. The M.A. in Political Science allows academically talented students to advance their knowledge and analytical skills by focusing on an interdisciplinary, problem-oriented area of concentration within the broad field of political science. Students may choose to specialize in American Politics (two different tracks), Public Policy, International Affairs (two tracks), Gender and Politics, or Political Theory. For students who already have undergraduate degrees, the program will normally take three to four semesters of full-time study.
Accelerated B.A./M.A. SLU undergraduate political science majors with a GPA of at least 3.4 may apply during their junior year for admission to an accelerated B.A./M.A. program. The accelerated B.A./M.A. in Political Science allows SLU undergraduate political science majors to earn both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in five years.
Master of Public Administration. The M.P.A is designed to provide graduates with proficiency in management principles and techniques, research and evaluation skills, and the ability to lead effectively in public service and non-profit sectors.
M.P.A./M.A. Dual Degree. This dual-degree program is designed for students who want a professional public administration degree and who seek additional expertise in political science in order to enhance their career opportunities.
J.D./M.A. in Political Science Dual Degree. This dual-degree program provides skills and knowledge in the social sciences and law in order to enhance the application of legal knowledge and social science research skills to a broad array of issues.
M.P.A./J.D. Dual Degree. This dual-degree program is for students who want the flexible training and skills to work in the area where policy becomes law and to better understand how law shapes policy.
M.P.A./M.S.W. Dual Degree. This dual-degree program is for students interested in the administration of social welfare organizations and in social policy.
Ph.D. in Public and Social Policy. This interdisciplinary Ph.D. prepares students to tack some of the biggest problems of our time by building multiple disciplinary perspectives, advanced methodological skills, and the ability to conduct original research in an academic or applied setting.
Graduate Certificate in Global and Local Social Justice. The Department collaborates with the departments of American Studies, Public Policy Studies, Sociology and Criminal Justice, and the School of Social Work to provide a graduate certificate in Global and Local Social Justice. This certificate is designed for students who desire to serve their communities and the world and who are attracted by the opportunity to think rigorously about the nature of justice and the ways social and political systems embody that value.
