"No one seems innocent in this current conflict-except for the children. I wish there was some way to take their side, on all sides."
- Tobias Winright, PhD, Associate Professor of Christian Ethics.

On Saturday, 7 September 2013, Pope Francis called upon all Christians to fast and pray for peace in Syria. The Department of Theological Studies would like to extend the focus on Syria by providing a way to be on the side of the children of Syria. In addition to our prayers, those of us who are able can help the people of Syria in this horrendous struggle. We have decided to raise Syrian refugee children in Jordan receive school kits to continue their educationmoney for an education program for Syrian refugee children, which is being run by the Catholic Relief Services. From Monday, 9 September 2013 to Friday, 27 September 2013, we will be collecting funds from faculty and students of Saint Louis University on behalf of that program.

We realize that not everyone can donate, but if you are able, you can send your donation to Cassie Cantrell in Theological Studies (Adorjan Hall, Room 124). Cassie can receive cheques (payable to Catholic Relief Services) and cash. For those who wish to use a debit/credit card, please click here to donate on the Catholic Relief Services website. If you do use a card, send Cassie an email that you have done so at You don't have to tell her how much you have donated, but if you do we will add it to the total that we will announce at the end of fundraising period.

It is doubtful that the entire Saint Louis University community is in agreement about what to do about Syria, but we can agree to show our love for our fellow human beings, especially the children of this worn-torn country.
