Athletic Training Students Explore Rams' Training Facility
On March 17th, as a part of National Athletic Training Month, students from the Athletic Training Program were given the opportunity to explore the St. Louis Rams corporate headquarters and training facility. The 168,000 square-foot headquarters and training facility houses an 80 yard indoor turf field, athletic training facility and weight room. Along with the full tour of the facility, students had the chance to speak with Reggie Scott ATC, the Rams' Head Athletic Trainer. Scott spoke with the students about various techniques and tips used in the field. He also spoke to the current challenges and changes in athletic training. The Rams regularly partner with SLU's Athletic Training Program to offer one of the students in the program a summer internship. This year, Nick Gastorf (MAT Class of 2014), will be completing a full year internship with the Rams.
Program Director, Anthony Breitbach Ph.D., ATC, was delighted for the students to experience the facility, "It is great having such great colleagues and organizations in the St. Louis region working with us as partners in the development of our students".
Since its inception in 2007, the Athletic Training Program at Doisy College of Health Sciences has gained visibility and recognition in the field as a nationally recognized program. SLU's Athletic Training Program takes every opportunity to give students a more hands on approach to learning. The program utilizes multiple facets to ensure the quality of learning. Students complete clinical rotation during the school year. The clinical sites include approximately 20 high schools and six colleges or universities in the area. In addition, students are required to participate in summer internships. This summer, 21 athletic training students will be interning at various sites, including three with the St. Louis Cardinals.
