BLS Seniors Receive Scholarship
Annually, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and the American Society for Clinical Pathology celebrate the future of the medical laboratory profession by awarding scholarships to students who have achieved a level of success that merits recognition. This year, Temitope Adeyeni and Ashley Selas, Medical Laboratory Science majors in the Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science (formerly Clinical Laboratory Science) were granted the Siemens Healthcare and Diagnostic Student Scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships are available to students in their final year of study to become a cytogenetics technologist, cytotechnologist, histotechnician, histotechnologist, molecular biology technologist, medical laboratory technician, clinical laboratory technician, medical laboratory scientist, clinical laboratory scientist or pathologists assistant and be an active member of the ASCP. The Doisy College of Health Sciences would like to congratulate both students for their hard work and recent achievement.
This year commemorates 10 years of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and the ASCP's annual joint scholarship program, helping address the nation's shortage of qualified medical laboratory professionals by promoting the profession and defraying students' education costs. Since 2003, more than $1.4 million in scholarships to over 1,200 students has been awarded through the Siemens-ASCP Scholarship Program to deserving students pursuing bachelor or master's degree in medical laboratory science or other areas of laboratory medicine.
