The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is excited to announce the launch of Fresh Gatherings Harvest 2014. The program will begin May 22, 2014 and the final week will be October 30, 2014 Fresh Gatherings Harvest is the community supported agriculture program from the Department that partners with local farmers to supply you with quality, local produce.
Community supported agriculture has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. In short, a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public which consists of a box of vegetables. Interested consumers purchase either a full share or half share and in return receive a box, bag or basket of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
The idea of this program is support local farmers who practice agriculturally sustainable methods. A full share costs $850 ($35.41 per week) and a half share costs $550 ($22.91 per week).
Pickup for your weekly share is between 11:30 am and 6 pm every Thursday in Fresh Gatherings Cafe on the farmers' market shelf near the entryway. Shareholders will be given a small sheet outlining what was gathered that week and where it came from. Any non-claimed CSA produce will be donated to a local charity - such as Campus Kitchens.
