Professor Receives Physical Therapy Teaching Award

ST. LOUIS - Mark Reinking, P.T., Ph.D., S.C.S., A.T.C., associate professor at Saint Louis University Doisy College of Health Sciences and chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, has received the 2012 Dorothy E. Baethke-Eleanor J. Carlin Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching from The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). This award was established by the American Physical Therapy Association in 1981 to annually recognize a physical therapy educator who demonstrates exceptional teaching effectiveness in the academic setting, a distinct expertise in at least one subject area to which the academic teaching has been directed, and excellence as a role model for academic teaching for students, faculty, and clinicians.

"Mark is extremely well respected in the PT community and has always been respected at the college for his teaching. It is wonderful to see him receive this award," said Charlotte Royeen, Ph.D., O.T.R./L., F.A.O.T.A., former Dean of Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University.

Dr. Reinking credits those who have taught him, those who have been colleagues and the students he has taught over the years for shaping the teacher he is today. He has been integral in the growth of the Program in Physical Therapy at SLU, now with over 500 students in the six-year clinical doctorate program, and he exemplifies SLU's mission to provide excellence in teaching.

Dr. Reinking will be presented the award at the 2012 APTA Annual Conference and Exposition June 7 in Tampa, Florida.
