Title: Clinical Education Accommodations for Physical Therapist Students with Disabilities
Study Design: Survey
Example Research Questions: What process does the ACCE/DCE utilize to address the need for accommodations by physical therapist students with disabilities? How do ACCE/DCEs communicate a request for accommodations by a physical therapist student with a disability to the CCCE or clinical instructor (CI) of a clinical setting? How does the ACCE/DCE evaluate the effectiveness of the accommodations provided during a clinical experience? Who accepts the responsibility for financial support (e.g. provision of specific equipment necessary for an accommodation) of accommodations at the clinical site?
Example Data collection Strategies: Web-based survey
Objective: Gather information regarding the decision making process Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education/Directors of Clinical Education engage in to assist students in determining reasonable accommodations during clinical experiences
Background: In my role as the Director of Clinical Education, I work with students who have disabilities to determine accommodations. I also receive questions from other PT and PTA faculty regarding appropriate procedures.
Goal: Determine if the ACCE/DCE in PT programs are using similar decision-making process.
Role: Primary Investigator
