Educational Leadership | Doctor of Philosophy Degree
SLU's Educational Leadership program has a regional and national reputation. The faculty is committed to the concept of program quality, and quality was the driver in the development of the design for the degree. The foundation of the design is grounded in the literature on educational leadership preparation. Additionally, students' work meets the Carnegie Standards for doctoral education. SLU's Educational Leadership program is accredited by NCAT.

Rankings/Honors: All programs are nationally accredited. Nearly 20 percent of all of Missouri's superintendents are alumni of the Graduate School at Saint Louis University.
Credit Hours/Coursework: A minimum of 72 hours beyond the bachelor's degree. A minimum of 60 hours of course work. A minimum of 30 hours of course work taken at Saint Louis University, excluding two (2) research prerequisites. A minimum residency requirement of two (2) continuous semesters approved by the student's advisor. Successful completion of a one-day written comprehensive exam at the conclusion of the student's course work. Successful completion of a two-hour oral examination after completion of a dissertation proposal approved by the student's dissertation committee. Successful completion of a doctoral dissertation proposal approved by the student's dissertation committee. In addition to the above requirements, the student must adhere to all university regulations stipulated in the General Bulletin.
Prerequisite: The applicant must complete 6 hours of graduate research coursework as a prerequisite for the doctoral program. However, if the entering student does not have some or all of these hours, he or she make take these hours during the doctoral program as an addition to the program coursework.

Program Highlights: Teachers already participating in the 1818 Advanced College Credit Program can receive tuition remission. Typically, the investment return for a student is realized after two promotions. Students do most of their studies off-campus, required only to be at SLU four times during their coursework.
