Educational Leadership | Executive Doctor of Education Degree

SLU's Educational Leadership program has a regional and national reputation. The faculty is committed to the concept of program quality, and quality was the driver in the development of the design for the degree. The foundation of the design is grounded in the literature on educational leadership preparation. Additionally, students' work meets the Carnegie Standards for doctoral education. SLU's Educational Leadership program is accredited by NCAT.

Applicant Criteria

  • Application reviewed by committee
  • An above-average GPA
  • A review of GRE or GMAT or LSAT or MAT scores
  • A review of English proficiency scores (for international applicants)
  • SLU Writing Exam (SLUWE) if admitted (for international applicants)

Application Review Process: The program has a year-round, rolling application process that is reviewed by committee.

Rankings/Honors: All programs are nationally accredited. Nearly 20 percent of all of Missouri's superintendents are alumni of the Graduate School at Saint Louis University.

Credit Hours/Coursework: The Ed.D. is designed to prepare students to become executive level educational leaders. Students enter the program with a masters or specialist degree in educational leadership or a related field. The program requires students, with a masters degree, to complete 38 hours of coursework; students with a specialist degree, complete 28 hours of coursework. Students complete coursework plus a doctoral project, a comprehensive examination, and an oral examination in order to graduate. A minimum of 28 credit-hours, excluding assigned prerequisites (if any), must be taken at Saint Louis University.  | Ed.D. coursework

Prerequisite: The applicant must complete 6 hours of graduate research coursework as a prerequisite for the doctoral program. However, if the entering student does not have some or all of these hours, he or she make take these hours during the doctoral program as an addition to the program coursework.

Program Highlights: Teachers already participating in the 1818 Advanced College Credit Program can receive tuition remission. Typically, the investment return for a student is realized after two promotions. Students do most of their studies off-campus, required only to be at SLU four times during their coursework.
