Mentoring is a form of advising in an organizational or team setting. Mentoring is a way for people to benefit from the ideas of those with greater experience in their shared setting. The Entrepreneurship Program and Center for Entrepreneurship are firm believers in the value of mentoring, and we work hard to make arrangements for our students and alums to share in the kinds of mentoring opportunities that can help make them happier, more rounded and more successful entrepreneurs.
We run a variety of mentoring programs:
Mentor-In-Residence is a special form of Entrepreneur-In-Residence program which focuses on providing an outstanding and widely experienced mentor to provide free help to students, faculty and staff on campus, as well as SLU alums who could use a knowledgeable and sympathetic expert with whom they can discuss business. Our Mentor-In-Residence is William (Bill) Deemer. Bill Deemer spent more than 40 years in the commercial insurance industry. He is a former member of SCORE St. Louis, a non-profit organization of working or retired business owners who share their wisdom with small business owners. Contact Bill through the Center at email@example.com 314-977-3850.
In-class Mentoring is provided by the faculty and by entrepreneurs who help the classes as presenters, judges, and even clients for feasibility studies and business plans. All students taking entrepreneurship classes are eligible, and details on connecting with mentors are given in every class. If you are interested, let you teacher know.
GatewayVMS is a region-wide program offering a venture mentoring service (VMS) patterned after a successful program based at MIT. The Center for Entrepreneurship represents SLU in the GatewayVMS program, and can make referrals. GatewayVMS is free to the person being mentored. The program is aimed at entrepreneurs with existing businesses who are looking for mentoring advice to help them grow to the next level. To learn more about this, contact GatewayVMS directly or talk to the Center Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or 314-977-3850.
