VP Facilities Services: This office provides leadership and direction for the Facilities Services division of SLU, which includes the Construction Services, Custodial Services, Distribution Services, Facilities Administration, Facilities Management, Grounds Services, Machine/Sign Shop, Mail Services, Planning & Construction, Service Operations, Sustainability & Benchmarking, and Transportation Services. There are 345+/- employees and an annual operating budget of $38 million. The VP of Facilities Services is part of the University's executive staff and interacts with the Board of Trustees and community leaders. This office also manages and maintains the division's website.

Service Operations: Service Operations is a functional/business unit in the Facilities Services division that oversees the operational, financial and administrative services of 7 departments, including Custodial Services, Distribution Services, Facilities Administration, Grounds Services, Mail Services, Sustainability & Benchmarking, and Transportation Services. Service Operations also provides oversight and direction regarding strategic planning for the division.

This unit is composed of union and non-union employees. Our distribution workers, custodians and grounds workers are represented by the Service Employees International Union, S.E.I.U., Local 1.

Facilities Administration: The Facilities Administration department is primarily responsible for providing administrative and financial support functions to all Facilities departments that include, Facilities Management, Facilities Planning & Construction, Mail Services, Transportation Services, Distribution Services, Ground Services, Custodial Services, Service Operations, and VP Facilities Services.

Custodial Services

Custodial Services

Responsible for providing cleaning and housekeeping services in all University-owned buildings with the exception of those areas occupied by Food Services and the Water Tower Inn. Assists with room set-ups as coordinated by University Event Services.

Distribution Services

Distribution Services

Serves as the primary receiving center and distributes parcels to all University departments. Coordinates the re-use of University furniture. Responsible for HIPPA-compliant record storage, moving services and outdoor tent set-ups coordinated by Event Services.

Facilities Management

Facilities Management

Maintenance Services: Responsible for providing maintenance services to all University-owned buildings, including plumbing, electrical work, locksmith requests, HVAC and climate control concerns, and more. Maintains signage, exterior lighting, water features and fountains on campus. Installs outdoor banners and Christmas decorations.

Machine Shop: The Machine shop is a vital unit in medical and research facilities. Innovative research often requires development of special equipment adaptable to new research and to support the operation of secondary, and laboratory support equipment. Services provided by the Machine Shop include prototyping, milling, lathe work, grinding, drilling, and customized machine production. 

Planning & Construction

Facilities Planning & Construction

Responsible for ensuring that all construction and renovation projects are planned, designed and completed to meet the needs of the campus community and serve the goals of the University, implementation and management of the University's FAMIS system (Facilities Administration Management Information System), management of real estate and space data, and creation of autoCAD drawings of University-owned buildings. Additionally, the department coordinates with the University's IT division on technology support and needs for the Facilities Services division.

Construction Services: The Billiken Construction Crew is an in-house service department of skilled tradesmen assembled to successfully deliver high quality workmanship for general construction services and renovation services on campus. The tasks performed under this group include minor demolition, carpentry, floor finishing, and painting. This unit allows SLU to function as its own general contractor on specified projects, creating opportunities for cost savings and/or project efficiencies.

Grounds Services

Grounds Services

Provides services for the maintenance and beautification of campus grounds, including flower beds, shrub and tree maintenance, litter collection, irrigation system maintenance, and snow removal. Responsible for maintenance of athletic fields and turf, as well as sidewalk and parking lot maintenance and repair, and the University's single-stream recycling program.

Mail Services

Mail Services

Responsible for the collection, processing, and distribution of interoffice mail and the University's incoming/outgoing United States Postal Services (USPS) mail, with the exception of student mail.

Sustainability & Benchmarking

Sustainability & Benchmarking

Sustainability & Benchmarking manages the process of identifying, prioritizing and tracking the Division of Facilities Services' sustainability related initiatives which may include, but are not limited to recycling programs, waste reduction, alternative transportation, and energy initiatives. Creates and maintains assessment and communication tools to report and inform on operational effectiveness. Works collaboratively with the division to identify and support the development of new initiatives, activities, special projects and best practices.

Transportation Services

Transportation Services

Responsible for the University shuttle service, the SLU Van Program, and the summer SLU RIDE program that provide transportation options for the University community. Serves as a member of the Parking and Transportation Advisory Committee.
