Recycling Electronics Drive
2nd Annual Electronics Recycling Drive a Huge Success
In our effort to promote sustainability, Facilities Services and Athletics teamed up with Midwest Recycling to offer a FREE electronics/appliance recycling drive for the university community. So much more than aluminum and paper were recycled!
A total weight of 48,791 lbs. or 24 tons of electronics equipment was kept from entering a landfill!
This is an increase of more than 36,000 lbs. over last year's event total of 12,350 lbs.
Midwest Recycling Company recycles "anything with a cord" and even collected TVs and monitors for free this year. This 2nd annual e-waste drive resulted in an increase over last year, which diverted only 6 tons.
The event took place at the Fred Weber lot (next to Chaifetz Arena) from 7:00am to 2:00pm. Recycled items were brought from homes and offices. All participants had to do was drive up to the truck and their job was over, the staff took care of unloading. Thanks to Keith McCune of Facilities Services and Midwest Recycling Company for making this event possible. And a big thank you to all of you who participated in making this new annual event a success!
