Arbor Day 2012

Arbor Day Observance

Event Details: 12:30 p.m., October 26, Firstar Plaza, corner of Grand and Lindell boulevards

Saint Louis University held an Arbor Day Observance event at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at Firstar Plaza at the corner of Grand and Lindell boulevards. The event was scheduled in conjunction with Sustainability Week activities and to kick off the installation of 125-plus trees on the east side of the campus over the next two months. These plantings will re-establish the tree canopy as it was according to a 2003 campus tree inventory.

The Arbor Day Foundation has several recognition programs to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. Two such programs are Tree City USA and Tree Campus USA. The Tree Campus USA certification program recognizes excellence in campus tree management, as well as student and community involvement across the nation. A brief overview of the certification process will be provided followed by the ceremonial tree planting.

Facilities Services put together a Campus Tree Advisory Team and developed a plan to achieve the required standards of the Tree Campus USA program. The Campus Tree Advisory Team will submit an application to the Arbor Day Foundation before the Dec. 31 deadline for review and certification.
