Friedrich Schuening, M.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as a professor of internal medicine and director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Dr. Schuening earned his medical degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany, followed by subspecialty training in hematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. He joins SLUCare from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Dr. Schuening is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. The author of numerous publications, Dr. Schuening also lectures frequently on gene therapy and cellular therapy for acute myocardial infarction and chronic coronary heart disease.
An attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital, Dr. Schuening has clinical expertise in leukemia, multiple myeloma, lymphomas and bone marrow transplantation. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Schuening has research interests in gene therapy, cellular therapy and regenerative medicine
