RE: Saint Louis University Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
The administration of Saint Louis University views Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity as a major policy commitment and an important management goal. All administrative personnel involved in the hiring and supervision of University personnel, along with the Director of Institutional Equity and Diversity, have the responsibility to recruit, hire, train, promote, and in all ways provide fair treatment on the basis of merit without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, age or veteran status. All policies are administered in a manner consistent with our Catholic Jesuit identity.
It is our intent to administer our various personnel programs, such as compensation, benefits, transfers, layoffs, returns from layoff, Saint Louis University sponsored training, education, and social activities, in such a manner as to eliminate any practices which might directly or indirectly exclude any employee form utilizing or benefiting from them.
Special efforts will be made to ensure that all employment decisions are based on principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and with the further commitment to ensure that Affirmative Action will be taken so that minority group individuals, females, Vietnam era Veterans, disabled persons, disabled veterans and other protected class individuals are introduced into the work force in an atmosphere that encourages them to aspire for promotional opportunities as they arise.
Although we continue to make progress, there is still much work to be done in this regard. As President of Saint Louis University, I am fully committed to our Affirmative Action Program and retain primary responsibility for its implementation. I have assigned the responsibility for overseeing the coordination and monitoring of our EEO Policy and day-to-day responsibility for its implementation to Ms. MIchelle Lewis, Director of Institutional Equity and Diversity.
