The Graduate School

Eileen Malatino

Education:

M.S., Biosecurity—Disaster Preparedness

Work Experience:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Atlanta GA, Health Scientist since 12/2002. Duties: member of Science Team with Divison of Stretegic National Stockpile. Primarily deal with the formulary.

Why did you choose SLU for your graduate degree?

The degree was a perfect fit for my current job. Additionally, working full time made traditional class attendance prohibitive. The degree I completed is entirely on-line. This meant that completing course work was adaptable to my busy schedule.

What factors contributed to your experience at SLU?

Although the classes were on-lone, interaction between students and faculty was facilitated with an on-line password protected web site. Students and faculty could post course work, questions and discussions on the web site. The faculty was available not only through this web site but also by phone if necessary.

How does your SLU education help you on your career path?

The degree that I completed was exactly what I needed to enhance my current job skills. The field of biosecurity and biodefense has increasingly become an important area of study. What I learned in my program at SLU would be an asset with any position that deals with biosecurity and disaster preparedness—publuc or private.

Why would you recommend a student attend SLU?

I can only speak from the aspect of a distance learnig student, but the opportunity to complete my degree on-line was exactly what I needed. I would highly recommend this to anyone who feels they can not fit a traditional classroom into their otherwise busy life.
